Description

Recurring droughts, climate change, unemployment, and economic instability continue to undermine food security and livelihoods across Somaliland. Vulnerable households—particularly women-headed families, youth, pastoralists, and displaced communities—face persistent challenges in meeting basic needs and securing sustainable sources of income.

Through our Livelihoods & Food Security programme, we aim to address both immediate food needs and long-term economic resilience. Our approach integrates emergency support with sustainable livelihood strategies that promote self-reliance, dignity, and community stability.

Livelihoods Support & Income Generation

We support households and individuals to establish and strengthen income-generating activities through vocational skills training, small business support, and start-up assistance. These interventions are designed to align with local market opportunities and enable beneficiaries to earn sustainable livelihoods.

Youth & Women Economic Empowerment

We prioritise economic opportunities for youth and women by providing skills training, entrepreneurship support, and financial literacy education. By empowering these groups, we help reduce unemployment, improve household income, and strengthen community cohesion.

Food Security & Emergency Assistance

In times of crisis, we provide emergency food assistance and livelihood protection support to help households meet immediate needs. These interventions are carefully targeted to reduce negative coping strategies and protect productive assets during periods of shock.

Climate Resilience & Sustainable Livelihoods

We integrate climate-smart approaches into our livelihood programmes, supporting communities to adapt to environmental changes. This includes drought-resilient livelihoods, diversification of income sources, and community-based resilience initiatives that reduce vulnerability to climate-related risks.

Community-Based Approaches & Market Linkages

We work closely with communities, local authorities, and market actors to ensure livelihoods interventions are locally appropriate and sustainable. By strengthening market linkages and community ownership, we promote long-term economic stability and reduce dependency on external assistance.
